Correction: Efren Antonio Villarreal-Alvarado was 43 when he was killed. Previous versions of this story gave an incorrect age.

Wichita police on Friday arrested two people in the killing of a 43-year-old Efren Antonio Villarreal-Alvarado, who was shot to death Friday morning in a west Wichita parking lot, Lt. Doug Nolte said.

Nolte said the arrests were made Friday evening. He announced the first capture on social media site Twitter at 9:18 p.m., adding that “the homicide was not a random act.”

News of the second arrest came via email at 10:25 p.m.

Contacted by phone after the first arrest, Nolte said, “The victim was targeted.” He said more details would be released Saturday at the news media’s noon briefing with police.

Neither information about arrested parties nor details of their capture were released by police Friday evening.

Villarreal-Alvarado was found shot in the chest in the parking lot of Santana Concrete, where he was an employee, Nolte said. He had arrived for work about 6:30 a.m., police said.

Villarreal-Alvarado was still alive in a vehicle at the business at 3665 W. McCormick, a few blocks east of West Street, when he was found by other employees arriving for work at about 7:15 a.m., Nolte said. A call was made to 911 about the same time to report the shooting, emergency dispatchers said.

Villarreal-Alvarado died shortly before 8 a.m. after being taken to Via Christi Hospital St. Francis, Nolte said.

Police are investigating.
