Wichita man indicted in federal court in QuikTrip robberies

A 21-year-old man suspected of robbing a string of QuikTrip stores on Feb. 8 has been indicted in federal court.

Samuel L. Vliet, of Wichita, is facing one count of commercial robbery at a QuikTrip at 2106 S. Rock Road, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom announced.

Vliet was arrested Feb. 8 on suspicion of five counts of robbery after thefts were reported at the QuikTrips at 2106 S. Rock Road, 5602 E. Harry and 1620 S. Webb Road. On Monday, Wichita police spokesman Lt. Doug Nolte said, a suspect was captured after the man slipped and fell on snow and ice when he spotted city and county law enforcement who, on a hunch, had been waiting for him following one of the robberies.

If convicted, Vliet faces at least 20 years in federal prison and a maximum fine of $250,000, Grissom said.
