Pair indicted after 117 pounds of cocaine were found in car

The Wichita Eagle

A federal grand jury on Tuesday indicted two people for allegedly hiding 117 pounds of cocaine in their car.

Acting U.S. Attorney Tom Beall said Marco Antonio Aispuro, 48, and Maria Janeth Moreno-Cento, 39, were each charged with one count of possession with the intent to distribute cocaine. Prosecutors say the pair were traveling through Wabaunsee County on Oct. 21 when the Kansas Highway Patrol pulled them over on I-70. Troopers found the drugs stashed in the driver’s side rear quarter panel of the car and in the spare tire.

If convicted, each faces at least 10 years in federal prison and a maximum fine of $10 million, Beall said. Moreno-Centeno is also facing a charge of unlawfully entering the United States after being deported, which carries a prison term of up to two years.
