Man shot in abdomen drives himself to convenience store for help

Wichita police continue to investigate a shooting that happened Tuesday night in south Wichita.

A 31-year-old man was shot in the abdomen at a residence in the 1000 block of West McCormick and drove himself to the Johnson’s General Store at McCormick and Seneca at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, according to Sgt. Nikki Woodrow, spokeswoman with the Wichita Police Department.

Emergency Medical Service crews then rushed the man to an area hospital while officers interviewed people at the house, Woodrow said.

While investigating the shooting, an 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated battery and attempted robbery.

“We are still talking with people,” Woodrow said. “It was learned there was a robbery attempt of some sort and they didn’t get what they wanted and a victim was shot.”

Police are asking anyone who has information about the shooting to contact Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111 and the Wichita Police Detective Division 316-268-4646.
