Police give more details in double stabbing near Second, Hydraulic
Wichita police gave more details in an attempted robbery Sunday that left both the victim and suspect in the hospital with stab wounds.
A stranger knocked on the front door of a house in the 2000 block of East Second, near Hydraulic, at about 1 a.m. on Sunday, Lt. James Espinoza said. He asked the 55-year-old homeowner if he would like to buy some cigarettes. The resident declined.
The stranger then asked for a glass of water. The resident agreed, Espinoza said. The stranger then burst into the home and began to demand items from the resident.
He stabbed the homeowner in the left side, according to a police report and then shoved him into a bathroom. The 55-year-old heard the suspect trying to steal property, Espinoza said.
“He ran to the kitchen and got a knife,” Espinoza said.
The homeowner confronted the intruder and stabbed him in the upper chest. The suspect ran from the home. The homeowner was taken to Wesley Medical Center for treatment and admitted.
The suspect was found a short time later and also taken to Wesley Medical Center, Espinoza said, where he is in critical condition. No arrests have been made in the case.
“It’s early in the investigation,” Espinoza said. “We still need to interview the suspect as well.”
