Police: Two men stabbed during attempted robbery
A 45-year-old man attempted to rob a residence in the 2000 block of East Second Street, near Hydraulic, shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday, according to Wichita police.
He ended up in critical condition after he fought with a resident and was stabbed in the heart.
The resident told police that he had been robbed by a man who told him to hand over his valuables, according to Sgt. Brian Sigman, spokesman for the Wichita Police Department. The victim told police he threw his wallet and keys toward the suspect who was threatening him with a knife. The two men fought with each other, Sigman said, and the suspect was stabbed in the chest. The resident, 55, was also stabbed but did not receive a life-threatening wound, Sigman said.
The suspect ran from the scene, but was later located by officers. He was taken to an area hospital where he underwent surgery, Sigman said. The resident also was taken to an area hospital.
The suspect is facing aggravated robbery charges.
