Man with gun arrested at Goddard High, police say

A 20-year-old man was taken into police custody at Goddard High School on Friday afternoon on suspicion of carrying a loaded weapon into the school, district officials said.

According to Dane Baxa, spokesman for Goddard schools, two men were dropped off by car at the school at about 12:15 p.m. Friday and entered the main office.

“Administration and our police force visited with the individuals, and through their conversation, it was determined that one of them was concealing a loaded gun,” Baxa said.

“The individual was taken into custody, and the matter right now is under police investigation.”

One of the men was a former student, Baxa said.

“The two individuals were apprehended in the office area and did not at any time have contact with the student body,” he said. “There were no immediate threats made to students.”

A letter sent to parents and guardians of Goddard High School students from principal Doug Bridwell on Friday said the “safety of our students and staff is the top priority” and that the school and district would cooperate with police during the investigation.
