A 17-year-old Arkansas City resident was arrested Friday in connection with a possible criminal threat aimed at Arkansas City High School that was associated with clowns, authorities said.

Police learned of the potential threat at about 8 a.m. Friday, Andrew Lawson, public information officer for the city of Arkansas City, said in a prepared statement released late Friday afternoon.

The information was found in a social media post. The resulting investigation culminated in the arrest of the suspect at a home in Arkansas City, Lawson said.

“The investigation revealed that there was no danger of physical harm associated with the media post,” Arkansas City police chief Dan Ward said in a prepared statement. “However, the officers involved worked very quickly to identify the suspect and ensure the safety of everyone involved.”

The suspect has been released to the custody of a parent pending a review of the case by the Cowley County Attorney’s Office, Lawson said.
