A robbery call led Wichita police officers to discover a marijuana growing operation in a Wichita house on Wednesday.

Officers responded to a robbery call in the 7000 block of West Frazier, near Central and Ridge, at around 4 p.m. A 17-year-old teenager said he was robbed of cash and his shoes.

Officers went to an address in the 1700 block of North Tony, near Ridge and 13th Street, which the 17-year-old identified. They smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside of the house.

“A search warrant was drawn and a marijuana grow operation was located inside of this residence,” Wichita police Sgt. Nikki Woodrow said.

A 28-year-old woman, a 25-year-old man and a 22-year-old man were arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of cultivation of marijuana. Two other people in the home were not arrested.

Woodrow said the connection between the robbery and the marijuana operation was unclear.

“It’s just the circumstances which led officers over to the address on Tony,” Woodrow said.
