Man sentenced to 168 months in prison for second-degree reckless murder

Justin A. Jones, one of six men charged in connection with a 2013 killing, was sentenced Tuesday to 168 months in prison, said Dan Dillon, spokesman for the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office.

Jones pleaded guilty in January to second-degree reckless murder in connection with the death of Wichitan Shawn Lindsey on Jan. 11, 2013.

Prosecutors said Jones was among a group of men who kidnapped, tortured and injected Lindsey with a lethal dose of methamphetamine to settle a debt owed to Automotive Bullies car repair shop owner Dang Sean. Surveyors found Lindsey’s body dumped in a wooded area near K-96 and Hillside.

Sedgwick County District Court Judge Ben Burgess presided over the sentencing Tuesday.

Two of the men convicted in connection with the killing are serving life sentences: Sean and Jason Jones, the brother of Justin.

Phouthalaksa Phomphihak, 34, was sentenced in December to 19 months’ incarceration on a count of conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery. He was given credit for the 22 months he served awaiting disposal of his case and released.

Anthony Garza, 30, is due in court Friday for sentencing on a kidnapping conviction.

Aaron Stricker, 29, pleaded guilty to aggravated battery on Jan. 30, according to district court records. He is scheduled for sentencing March 25.
