Local victim support organizations awarded $332,000 in grants
Ten organizations that help crime victims in the Wichita area will receive more than $332,000 in grants from Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt’s office.
The awards come from the Protection from Abuse Fund, State Child Exchange and Visitation Centers Fund, State Crime Victims’ Assistance Fund and State Crime Victims’ Assistance Fund for Child Abuse and Neglect, Schmidt said in an e-mail announcing the winners.
Local recipients are:
▪ Catholic Charities Harbor House, $34,100 for 24-hour support, safety planning, education and referral services for domestic violence victims
▪ Family Life Center of Butler County, $22,981 for shelter and services for domestic violence and sexual assault victims
▪ Mental Health Association of South Central Kansas, $25,000 to support the Mid Kansas Senior Outreach program
▪ Roots & Wings, $17,500 to train and support Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers in Sedgwick County
▪ StepStone, $25,000 for a part-time licensed counselor
▪ Sunlight Children’s Advocacy and Rights Foundation, $15,000 for advocacy services for abused and neglected children
▪ TFI Family Services - Wichita CEVC, $57,075 for supervised visitation and exchange services in and around Wichita
▪ Tri-County CASA, $10,000 to train volunteer court advocates working with child abuse and neglect victims
▪ Wichita Area Sexual Assault Center, $7,000 to provide programs for local children; $10,860 for workshops and survivor support groups; $45,000 for administrative support
▪ YWCA Women’s Crisis Center, $25,000 to implement a parent-child advocacy program focusing on domestic violence factors; $38,380 for domestic violence shelter and services
