Blue-green algae warning lifted for Lake Afton

Just in time for Labor Day weekend, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment has lifted the blue-green algae warning at Lake Afton.

The lake is safe for humans, though pets are still banned at the lake. Fishing requirements also remain the same, according to a statement issued by Sedgwick County officials.

Anyone who keeps and cleans fish from the lake should filet the fish only and throw the rest away. The lake will continue to be tested every two weeks or until every restriction is lifted, officials said.
