Authorities on Monday found the body of a 62-year-old Wichita man missing since Friday night, when he was swept away by flooding in Butler County.

The body was recovered a little before 11:15 a.m. on Monday, Butler County Sheriff Kelly Herzet said.

Herzet identified the man as Richard Lowery, 62, of Wichita.

The body was found by K-9 dogs and a detective near a pond on Polecat Creek, near SW 210th and Butler Road, Herzet said. The location is about 3 miles south of Rose Hill.

Workers and emergency personnel had been at the scene since 10:30 Friday night, Herzet said.

Lowery and his son were swept away in their pickup Friday night near a creek. The son survived. He was able to walk out of a soybean field early the next morning.

On Monday, Herzet noted that the ground remains saturated from heavy rains and that more rain is expected. Herzet said he wanted to remind drivers to turn around when they encounter rising water.
