Man hurt in Cheney pump station fall dies
The city employee who fell 20 to 30 feet at the Cheney Reservoir pump station last week died Monday at Via Christi Hospital St. Francis, a hospital spokeswoman confirmed.
Daniel Olmsted, 59, had been in critical condition since he was discovered shortly before 2 a.m. on Feb. 3 on the floor of the pump station at 39500 W. 21st St. Olmsted worked the day shift at the pump station, and his wife became concerned when he didn’t come home from work that night.
City officials said Olmsted may have been lying on the floor of the pump station for hours before he was found. Police had announced Olmsted’s death Monday morning, but later said he was still alive.
