Wichita police on Wednesday gave the name of a driver who died earlier this week when another car crossed the center line and struck his car head-on on West Harry.

Police identified the man who died Monday night as Nicholas Woodall, 34, of Wichita.

On Tuesday, police said the driver of the car that went into the oncoming lane had allegedly been in a hit-and-run collision shortly before the fatal crash.

At about 8 p.m. on Monday, the 52-year-old driver of a 1991 Buick Regal traveled west on Harry, went into an eastbound lane and hit head-on a red 2000 Mitsubishi Galant driven by Woodall. He died at the scene.

The 52-year-old driver was taken to a hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries and was not arrested. The case remains under investigation.

An investigation, based partly on witness accounts, found that the 52-year-old may have been involved in a hit-and-run collision shortly before the fatal crash, police said. The earlier collision was in the 500 block of South Broadway at Harry – a half-mile east of the fatal crash.
