Boy, 2, in critical condition after falling in hot soup

A 2-year-old boy is in critical condition at Via Christi Hospital St. Francis with third-degree burns after being accidentally dropped into a pot of hot soup, Wichita police Sgt. Ron Hunt said.

Shortly after 4 p.m. Friday, the child’s mother was removing the boy from his car seat in the 1700 block of North Waco when he slipped from her grasp and landed in the soup, Hunt said.

His right foot was submerged past the ankle, Hunt said, and he sustained third-degree burns.

He said police are not pursuing any charges.
