Pedestrian dies after being hit on I-135

A 42-year-old Wichita man has died after he was hurt while standing on the shoulder of I-135 north of Wichita late Sunday afternoon, officials said.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that two vehicles were on the right shoulder of I-135 in the southbound lanes of the freeway just south of 125th Street North when a Buick Regal drifted off the freeway and struck a Dodge Durango shortly after 5 p.m.

The Durango then hit Hugo St. Germain, who was standing close to the pickup, and also hit a Toyota Camry. St. Germain was taken to Via Christi Hospital-St. Francis, where he later died.

The driver of the Buick Regal, 33-year-old Jay Morris of Flagstaff, Ariz., is in fair condition at St. Francis.
