Four teenage boys are in custody for disorderly conduct after a reported fight near 27th and Broadway early Thursday evening, according to Wichita police.

Lt. Chris McAuliffe said multiple people called police around 7:30 p.m. to report several people in the street fighting. They reported seeing a gun as well, McAuliffe said.

When officers approached the group, they heard a loud noise that sounded like a gunshot, McAuliffe said.

The group scattered, and some went into the backyard of a home on the corner of Aley and Market.

An officer chased two suspects into the backyard, McAuliffe said. A dog charged the officer, prompting her to shoot once, missing the dog, he said.

Officers have been talking with neighbors in the area, including the residents of the house at Aley and Market, who told them the loud noise was a firework, not a gunshot.

“We’re still trying to work out what actually went off,” McAuliffe said.

No injuries were reported to any of the teenagers, or the dog.
