Annual Kansas Book Festival set for Sept. 10 in Topeka

A day devoted to authors, books and reading will be held this September in Topeka.

The sixth annual Kansas Book Festival will be Saturday, Sept. 10, at the Kansas State Capitol. The festival is meant to highlight the importance of reading, Kansas first lady Mary Brownback said in a news release Thursday.

More than 20 authors will attend the event, according to the release, including Jane O’Connor (Fancy Nancy series); former NSA and CIA director Michael Hayden (“Playing to the Edge: American Intelligence in the Age of Terror”); and founder of Smallcakes Bakery Jeff Martin (“Buttercream Dreams”).

There will also be vendors, book sales and signings, entertainment, live music and appearances by storybook characters.

The event is free and open to all ages. For more details, visit www.kansasbookfestival.com.
