Name of man killed in Towanda house fire released

Butler County authorities have released the identity of a man who died in a house fire in Towanda last week.

Steven G. Hulse, 56, was killed Thursday night when the fire broke out in the living room of his house at 311 N. Third, Butler County Undersheriff Tony Wilhite said. He was found next to his bed in the living room.

Hulse’s 16-year-old son had gone to a friend’s house earlier in the evening and returned at about 11:15 p.m., authorities have said. He went inside, but intense heat and soot forced him back outdoors.

Fire crews found a smoldering fire that generated a lot of smoke, authorities have said.
