Wichita police aren’t sure why a Ford Focus drifted across the center line before colliding with an oncoming car on Harry on Thursday night.

The collision at 7:50 p.m. in the 2600 block of East Harry killed the driver of the Focus, identified in police records as 25-year-old Braden Toohey. Two women in the second vehicle, ages 25 and 24, were taken to a hospital, treated for minor injuries and released, Wichita police Sgt. Nikki Woodrow said Friday.

Harry was closed for a few hours Thursday night as the Critical Accident Team worked the scene. The investigation remained active Friday.

The Focus was traveling east when it drifted into westbound lanes and hit the second vehicle, a Chrysler Cirrus, Woodrow said.

“It is unknown what the cause of the accident is at this time,” Woodrow said.

Toohey is the 13th person to die in a traffic crash this year in Wichita, according to police records.
