Wichita firefighters found a car in the Arkansas River on Wednesday afternoon that had first been reported in the water on July 3.

The roof of the red car was just visible under the water’s surface when crews arrived at around 5:30 p.m.

After about 30 minutes of pulling with a tow truck, the car was lifted out of the river and onto a bank.

Wichita police Sgt. Scott Moon said the sedan had been reported stolen.

It had reportedly rolled into the river off Zimmerly Street on July 3, he said. It then floated down to where it was found.

No occupants were found in the vehicle when it was pulled out of the water.

Emergency crews searched for a couple of hours late on July 3 after passers-by reported seeing the car in the water around Harry, though their search turned up nothing.
