Man, 54, found dead in north Sedgwick County lake
A 54-year-old man was found drowned in a private lake Monday morning after family members said he did not return from late-night fishing.
Lt. Lin Dehning with the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office said a deputy responded to a call near 6600 N. Ridge road at 10:40 a.m. Monday. The body of the man was found by a family member who went looking for him after he did not return Sunday night.
According to the family, Dehning said it was not unusual for the man to go fishing late at night.
Dehning said the lake is owned by the Fraternal Order of Police, a private organization, and that the man had permission to fish there.
Authorities cannot confirm at this time whether or not the man was a current or former member of law enforcement.
Dehning said there is no reason at this point to think the man’s death is anything but an accidental drowning. The body will be transported to the coroner for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
