Concert to help Valley Center man combat kidney failure expenses
A fundraising concert is planned for July 15 to benefit Capt. Dustin Curry, a Sedgwick County first responder who recently underwent a kidney transplant, according to a news release.
The Bootleg Rhythm Kings, a band composed of musicians from Wichita and surrounding cities, is performing at the event, which will be held at 8 p.m. at Spirits Pub, 231 E. Main St., in Valley Center, according to band member Barry Reece.
Reece said Curry was diagnosed in 2008 with a disease that caused him to develop scar tissue on parts of his kidneys, which ultimately led to kidney failure. Curry’s friend and brother-in-law, West Schomer, donated his kidney to Curry.
The event will cost $5 at the door, and all proceeds will go to the Dustin Curry Fund to help with medical and personal expenses, Reece said.
