Nelson Mosley, whose long career with the Wichita Police Department included a stint as interim police chief, has been appointed as Rose Hill’s new police chief.

“Our community has a strong tradition of good public safety operations, and Chief Mosley will help us grow and achieve the next level of providing exemplary law enforcement services,” Mayor Beth Pompa, who appointed Mosley, said in a prepared statement.

Mosley retired from the Wichita Police Department in January, ending a 29-year career with the agency. He spent more than a year as interim chief, following the abrupt retirement of Chief Norman Williams in September 2014.

Pompa said she received 33 applications for the chief’s post, vacated in March when then-chief Bob Sage was named police chief in his home town of Augusta.

The Rose Hill City Council will be asked to confirm Mosley’s appointment at its July 18 meeting.
