Firefighters investigate smoke in building at Wesley Medical Center
Firefighters responded to a call of smoke at Wesley Medical Center late Thursday afternoon.
Allen Poston, vice president for marketing and public relations at Wesley Healthcare, said the smoke was in the Medical Arts Tower, which houses doctor’s offices and medical clinics for outpatient visits. He said the smoke appeared to come from an electrical box and was likely caused by water in the area.
He said most of the offices in the building were shut down or were close to shutting down for the day when the incident occurred just after 5 p.m., he said.
He said no inpatients were moved because of the electrical smoke. But he said Wesley shut off power in the affected area of the building as a precaution and planned to turn on power again with an emergency generator.
Poston said fire crews left the scene just after 6 p.m.
