Car slams into house in west Wichita
Until 11 p.m., Wednesday was a quiet night for a woman living on Chipper Lane, near Central and Maize in west Wichita.
She had put a load of laundry in the washing machine, and her husband was in bed.
Then, she heard what sounded like a bomb.
“In my mind, it didn’t sound like a large firecracker – it was worse than that,” she said. “I was afraid to even look out the door.”
A gray Pontiac sedan had slammed into the side of her garage around 11 p.m. Wednesday, leaving the driver with minor injuries, according to Wichita police.
The car had penetrated about halfway through to the garage, which damaged the woman’s car and destroyed a brick wall to the garage.
The woman said her 2-year-old dachshund hid upon hearing the noise, and the woman eventually put the pup in a half-bathroom so that she wouldn’t get loose.
The driver was taken away in an ambulance.
Police would not say what led up the crash Wednesday night. A hubcap lay in a neighboring yard.
No one in the house was injured.
