Downtown Diversity Jam aims to use music to bring people together

The Downtown Diversity Jam is an event designed to bring people who love all types of music together.

The event is 7 p.m. on July 14 in Old Town Plaza in front of the Museum of World Treasures.

At least 10 different types of music genres will be represented, including rap, blues, bluegrass, opera, Latin and more, according to Lon Smith, one of the participants in the group, which was facilitated by Butler Community College and sponsored by Spirit AeroSystems, Cox Communications, Westar Energy and the Wichita Community Foundation.

Smith, who is now the interim director of the Kansas Aviation Museum, will be emcee at the event.

All musicians are performing as a donation.

“This is a feel-good community event that highlights diversity and brings diverse groups and people together for one night of peace, love and camaraderie,” Smith said.
