Watch timelapse video of strawberry moon in Wichita
Summer officially began Monday night in Kansas and across the country.
Monday was the day that the Northern Hemisphere saw more hours of daylight than any other.
In Wichita, people gathered at the solstice calendar in Central Riverside Park to watch the full moon rise.
A full moon also coincided with Monday’s solstice. June’s full moon has traditionally been nicknamed the strawberry moon, a name some say refers to strawberry harvest season.
The days will begin to get measurably shorter next week. The number of hours of daylight will continue to shrink until Dec. 21, the winter solstice.
