Jogger hit by SUV in downtown Wichita

A jogger escaped critical injury when she was struck by a vehicle in downtown Wichita on Friday morning, authorities said.

The 38-year-old woman was jogging east on Douglas when she entered the intersection shortly after 8:30 a.m. and was hit by a Chevy Equinox traveling south on Main, Wichita police Officer Charley Davidson said. The Equinox had a green light at the intersection of Douglas and Main.

The jogger “thought it was clear” at the intersection, so she continued her run, Davidson said. She was taken to Via Christi Hospital St. Francis with a head injury that was not considered critical, he said.
