Man with bicycle tries to outrun train
A Wichita resident attempted – and failed – to outrun a train early Tuesday morning, authorities said.
The train was headed north at Mount Vernon and Ellis, near Harry and Hydraulic, where the 26-year-old man was pushing his bicycle at 2 a.m. Tuesday, Wichita police Sgt. Nikki Woodrow said. He attempted to run west across the railroad tracks in front of the oncoming train, but he was struck, she said.
He was taken to an area hospital with several broken bones, but he is expected to recover, Woodrow said.
“It is definitely not worth the risk of trying to outrun a train,” Woodrow said. “Just sit and wait for it to go by, and move on your way.”
