K-96 crash re-routes traffic Monday afternoon

The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating an accident that happened in rural Sedgwick County on K-96, causing eastbound traffic on the highway to be temporarily re-routed while the wreckage was cleared.

The accident happened at 2:44 p.m. on Monday.

A 2011 Toyota Camry driven by Barbara McCune of Newton was northbound on 167th Street West when it entered the intersection with K-96, according to highway patrol Trooper Joe Middleton.

A 2008 Chrysler driven by Dayvon Williams of Bel Aire was eastbound on K-96 in the left lane when the Camry entered the intersection in front of the Chrysler, apparently failing to stop at the sign. The Chrysler collided with the driver’s side of the Camry, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol crash log.

Three people were injured – two are in critical condition, according to a Sedgwick County 911 dispatcher, and one is in serious condition.
