Summer staycations in Wichita might require some extra ingenuity.

That’s because the city ranks in the bottom third among staycation cities, according to WalletHub’s list of 2016 Best & Worst Cities for Staycations.

Source: WalletHub

The list ranks 150 cities across the country in three overall categories: recreation, food and entertainment, and rest and relaxation.

Wichita received the fourth-worst score in the country for rest and relaxation.

It ranked 129 out of 150 overall and middle of the pack for recreation and food and entertainment.

Each city’s rest and relaxation score is compiled using a city’s cost of house-cleaning services, beauty salon costs, the per-capita number of wellness centers and spas, per-capita public beaches and summer weather.

Other measures for the overall staycation scores include per-capita number of swimming pools, tennis courts, public golf courses, zoos and aquariums, ice cream and frozen yogurt shops, coffee and tea shops, beer gardens and museums.

Unsurprisingly, Orlando, Fla., swept the No. 1 spot for overall best staycation city. But surprisingly, vacation destinations like New York City and Los Angeles sat among the 10 worst cities on the list.

Although Wichita didn’t fare too well on WalletHub’s rankings, we’ve compiled lists of things to do this summer for staycation fun.
