Despite the recent stormy weather, outdoor Wichita-area pools plan to open over Memorial Day weekend for the summer.

The North, South, Northwest and Andover YMCAs will open Saturday. City of Wichita pools and Rock River Rapids Aquatic Park in Derby will open Monday.

“Unless there’s lightning in the area or extreme cold temperatures, we will open,” said Shelly Conrady, YMCA vice president of marketing and communications. “My guess is the water temperature will be a little cool, but we always have some eager swimmers who will dive in.”
