Five videos are finalists in the Wichita Police Department’s Running Man Challenge.
The videos are an effort by the department to show a lighter side of law enforcement officers, Wichita police Sgt. Nikki Woodrow has said. The challenge is a video dance craze that has spread across the globe, featuring people doing the “Running Man” hip-hop dance to the 1990s song “My Boo” by the Ghost Town DJs.
The winner of the informal local competition will be decided by “likes” on the police department’s Facebook page. Viewers can vote until 5 p.m. Thursday.
So far, the bomb squad’s video is blowing away the competition.
Other finalists include the warrant section, the command staff, a joint sheriff-police video featuring children from the Boys & Girls Club and a group of Patrol West officers.
The competition is being held in conjunction with National Police Week, which is held each year in mid-May.
