Motorists who rely on K-96 in north Wichita may need to use alternate routes for the next few weeks.

The ramp linking northbound I-235 with westbound K-96 will be closed Tuesday, May 17, so the bridges over the Big Arkansas River can be repaved and repainted, Kansas Department of Transportation spokesman Tom Hein said. Detour signs will direct traffic to exit onto Meridian.

The work was slated to start Monday but was delayed a day by rain, Hein said. The project is expected to take three weeks, he said, though rainy weather could slow things down.
