A hive of bees escaped in west Wichita on Friday morning after an accident.

Part of 119th Street West between 13th and 21st streets was temporarily closed as firefighters and police worked the scene. The accident occurred near Westport and 119th Street at about 8:30 a.m. The street reopened to traffic about an hour later.

Firefighters on the scene said one person who was injured in the accident was moved away from the bees so they wouldn’t be stung more.

Neighbors were outside their houses and did not report any stings. But several local TV reporters appeared to be stung as they tried to videotape the bee escape.
