Conway Springs man killed in collision on K-49

A 20-year-old Conway Springs man was killed when his motorcycle collided with a car in Sumner County on Monday night, authorities said.

Douglas E. Thomas was riding north on K-49 shortly after 6:45 p.m. Monday when he attempted to pass a Saturn Ion at 100th Avenue just north of Conway Springs, according to a statement released by the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver of the Saturn turned left and Thomas hit the car and was ejected, authorities said. He was taken to Via Christi Hospital-St. Francis, where he later died as a result of his injuries.

The motorcycle struck a rear panel of the Saturn. Two children in the car, ages 4 and 13, suffered minor abrasions in the collision and were transported to a hospital, authorities said.

The driver of the Saturn was cited for not having proof of insurance and driving with an expired tag.
