The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office collected 749 pounds of expired, unwanted or over-the-counter medications on Saturday.
The event is typically held twice a year – in the spring and fall. The 749 pounds was one of the largest collections the county has ever collected, according to Sgt. Lloyd Brownlee of the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office.
The collection, part of the National Drug Take Back initiative, was open for six hours Saturday in Sedgwick County. Collection sites were at the Sedgwick County Zoo, the Household Hazardous Waste Center and the Oaklawn Activity Center.
The initiative was sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Administration in cooperation with the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office.
