Unused, old medication can be dropped off Saturday
Law enforcement agencies statewide will be collecting unused, leftover and expired medications Saturday as part of National Drug Take-Back Day, according to an announcement from Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt.
Drop-off sites will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For a full list of locations, go to www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/drug_disposal/takeback/index.html and click on “locate a collection site near you.”
Among Sedgwick County drop-off sites are:
▪ Household Hazardous Waste Facility, 801 W. Stillwell, Wichita
▪ Oaklawn Activity Center, 4904 S. Clifton, Wichita
▪ Sedgwick County Zoo, 5555 W. Zoo Blvd., Wichita
▪ Bel Aire Police Department, 7651 E. Central Park Ave., Bel Aire
▪ Derby Antique Mall parking lot, 317 N. Rock Road, Derby
▪ Goddard Police Department, 118 N. Main, Goddard
▪ Haysville Police Department, 200 W. Grand, Haysville
▪ Maize Police Department, 10100 E. Grady, Maize
The goal of the event, which is coordinated by the federal Drug Enforcement Administration, is to collect and safely destroy unused medications in an effort to curb accidental ingestion or intentional misuse.
More than 38 tons of unwanted drugs have been collected in Kansas since 2010, according to Schmidt’s announcement.
