Conference to focus on gang-prevention, mentoring boys

A local nonprofit geared toward empowering and educating local teens is holding an event Saturday to help connect men and boys in the community.

The seventh annual “Developing Every Man’s Opportunity” — or DEMO — conference and fundraiser will run from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club of South Central Kansas, 2400 Opportunity Drive, near 21st and Grove. The event is free for boys 14 to 18. Others in the community can attend for $25 apiece.

Tickets will be available at the door and includes lunch.

The conference is presented by Do You Want to Live or Die?, a gang-prevention and mentoring program of Rise Up for Youth. For more information, contact David Gilkey at 316-312-5705.
