Teen on bicycle critically hurt in hit-and-run

Wichita police are seeking assistance from the public to help them find whoever struck and critically injured a teenage boy riding his bike on Hydraulic on Thursday night.

The boy was riding north in the curb lane in the 3600 block of South Hydraulic when he was struck by a vehicle at about 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Lt. James Espinoza said. A passerby spotted the boy lying next to his bicycle and called 911.

The victim was taken to Wesley Medical Center, Espinoza said, where he was in critical condition on Friday.

“We’re still trying to notify next-of-kin” who do not live in the U.S., Espinoza said.

The vehicle that struck the bicycle may have damage as a result of the collision, he said. Anyone with information about the incident is being asked to call 911 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
