Meridian traffic enforcement nets dozens of citations

File photo

Wichita police made dozens of traffic stops during a 24-hour enforcement project that focused on Meridian earlier this week.

The Kansas Department of Transportation provided grant money so law enforcement agencies could pay extra attention to Meridian throughout Sedgwick County, Lt. James Espinoza said.

Wichita police officers made 81 stops on Wednesday, including 49 citations for speeding. Another 10 tickets were issued to adults who were not wearing seat belts, Espinoza said.

One driver was ticketed for running a stop sign, and 21 other citations were issued for various traffic offenses, including improper signaling.

The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office did not participate in the enforcement project, Lt. Lin Dehning said, though deputies did patrol along Meridian.
