Officials to onlookers: Let firefighters work (+video)

Officials battling the Anderson Creek Fire in Barber County are asking those not involved in the effort to avoid the area, according to a news release.

Units fighting the blaze reported an increase in traffic around the scene of the fire, which could lead to the potential for accidents, one official said.

“If you aren’t a firefighter or a property owner, please stay out of the area,” said Barber County Attorney Gaten Wood. “We want to cut down on the possibility of any secondary accidents. Everyone should have their eyes on the road. We will not impede any firefighting efforts.”

Wood said he understands that locals are curious about the situation, but added that it’s important that everyone cooperate in the effort to put the fire out.

“All volunteers are providing a valuable service in this community – please let them help us,” Wood said.

Officials are asking residents to avoid the areas from River Road south to the state line and from U.S. 281 west to the county line, according to the release.
