Man injured in forklift accident still critical

A 21-year-old man injured in an industrial accident in southwest Wichita early Thursday morning remains in critical condition, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The man was using a forklift at R&L Carriers, 3402 W. Harry, when he leaned forward from the driver’s seat for unknown reasons shortly before 5:45 a.m. Thursday, police have said. He bumped a lever and was pinned by the mast of the forklift.

Attempts by coworkers to free him from the machinery failed, but first responders were eventually able to extricate him and transport him to Via Christi Hospital St. Francis.
