Official: Fire at Sundance Apartments caused $450,000 in damage
Wichita fire crews responded to a fire at an apartment complex in east Wichita on Wednesday morning.
A second alarm was called out for the fire reported at Sundance Apartments, 1945 N. Rock Road. Smoke from guttering was reported at 8:04 a.m., according to a Sedgwick County 911 dispatch supervisor.
Estimated damage to the structure and contents is $450,000, Wichita fire Lt. Kelly Zane said Thursday. No injuries were reported.
Residents of 16 apartments were displaced, Wichita Fire Marshal Brad Crisp said Thursday.
The cause is still under investigation, but investigators believe the fire was ignited by either an electrical malfunction or a discarded cigarette.
There may have been “a problem in the electrical distribution system,” Crisp said.
