A 9-month-old girl is in protective custody as authorities investigate how she suffered a spiral leg fracture, police said Monday.
The infant’s mother brought her to Wesley Medical Center at about 6 p.m. Saturday for evaluation, Wichita police Lt. Jeff Gilmore said. Doctors discovered a spiral fracture to her femur.
The girl’s 20-year-old mother told police she was unsure when the injury had occurred. There were eight people who had cared for the child over the past 24 hours, Gilmore said.
The mother had no explanation for how the injuries may have occurred. The Exploited and Missing Child Unit is investigating the incident, Gilmore said.
