Wichita State announces Koch scholarship winners

Nine high school students have earned Koch scholarships amounting to $30,000 to $50,000 over four years, Wichita State University announced Friday.

The students will also get general merit scholarships they earned, WSU said in a statement.

Koch Industries and the Fred and Mary Koch Foundation pledged $11.25 million to WSU. Of that, $1.54 million was dedicated by Koch Industries to awards for Cohen Honors College freshmen in majors within the College of Engineering or the W. Frank Barton School of Business.

Scholars earn the money based on high school grade point averages, test scores, work, volunteer and leadership efforts, an essay and an interview.

▪ Sydney Finney, Maize High School, computer engineering

▪ Jack Hale, Wichita High School East, computer science

▪ Sidney Hose, Blue Springs High School (Missouri), mechanical engineering

▪ Aidan Jude, Maple Lake High School (Minnesota), electrical engineering

▪ Zubair Khan, Wichita High School East, computer engineering

▪ Lucas Webb, Northeast Magnet School, engineering
