Kansas Humane Society hosts Puppy Bowl (+video)

The Kansas Humane Society is holding a Puppy Bowl on Friday afternoon, featuring five dogs seized from a puppy mill late last month.

The event will be at 2 p.m. at the Humane Society, 3313 N. Hillside. People can watch in person or via live stream on the society’s website, www.kshumane.org.

Four of the seized puppies will play in the “game,” while the fifth will be the halftime entertainment, said Wichita police Lt. Steve Kenney. They are at least four months old, and were among 20 dogs taken from the house in the 500 block of North Doris on Jan. 30.

The puppies will be spayed or neutered Saturday, Kenney said. They are available for adoption, but only by someone who comes to the Humane Society and places a hold on a pup in person.

Law enforcement agents went to the house on Doris with a warrant to search for drugs and discovered the dogs, police have said. The dogs ranged in age from a few days old to adults.

One of the adult dogs was microchipped and police returned the dog to its owner. The rest were taken by Wichita Animal Control.

Police have been told another 20 to 40 puppies are being kept in another location, but those animals have not yet been found.

No arrests have been made, police said Friday, though the case remains under investigation.
