Cellphone shooting video found in restroom of west-side Wichita restaurant
Police are investigating how long a cellphone was recording video in a restroom of a west Wichita business before it was discovered on Tuesday.
The phone was partially obscured when it was found by a 25-year-old woman who went into the restroom at Emperor’s Japanese Grill at 7825 W. Maple at about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Wichita police Lt. James Espinoza said.
The woman was in the restroom with her 5-year-old daughter when the phone was found.
“The cellphone was placed to film someone using the facility,” Espinoza said.
The woman removed the phone and turned it in to employees of the restaurant, which is near Ridge Road. Police have learned the phone belonged to one of the restaurant’s employees.
No arrests have been made, though the investigation is ongoing. It’s not yet clear how long the phone had been there shooting video, Espinoza said.
“I really hope it’s only a one-time deal,” Espinoza said, adding that the incident is “very alarming.”
